About

Hi, I’m Dr. Katya Waitzkin, a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist.

I see therapy as an opportunity for transformative insight, creativity, self-expression, and healing. My role is to listen to your story, and to help you tell a new one.

I have particular interest in intersectional identity, dynamics of power and privilege, supporting those exploring issues of gender and sexuality, and working with queer and non-traditional couples. I draw from psychodynamic, and narrative modalities and bring a feminist, sex-positive, social justice-informed lens.

Finding a therapist can be a daunting process, and one that often starts when you are least up to it. It can be helpful to connect directly, and to prioritize finding someone who you feel comfortable with. I offer a free consultation during which we will have the chance to explore whether we might be a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you.

Supervision + Consultation Services

In addition to my work as a psychotherapist, I have served as an adjunct clinical faculty at the Wright Institute supervising doctoral Psychology students in training.

I also provide consultation services to organizations and clinicians seeking to improve their cultural competency around gender and sexuality.

Education + Training

I completed my BA at Vassar College, majoring in English Literature with a focus on creative writing. I later earned a masters degree and doctorate at The Wright Institute, an APA accredited psychology program in Berkeley California. I have trained at The Wright Institute Clinic, The Wright Recovery Clinic, Alameda Family Services, and Pacific Center for Human growth. My specialized training and clinical experience includes sex positive approaches to treatment, substance use treatment, family work, chronic medical issues such as HIV/AIDS, consensual non-monogomy and polyamory, sexual trauma, non-binary and transgender identity, sexual fluidity, and educational consultation, among other areas.
